The second stop of our transdisciplinary tour is Japan, visiting two major cities—Nagoya and Osaka.
Led by Prof. Kingsley Ng, ARTT students, together with Nagoya University of the Arts, held the ""TRANSIT 2025"" exhibition🎨. Led by Dr. Caixia Chu, transdisciplinary students focused on SDG#15 Life on Land, exploring how Nagoya strikes a balance between urban development and environmental conservation ⚖️. By visiting Todagawa Ryokuchi Park and Ryokuchi Park, students understood how the city balanced between urban development and environmental conservation🌲!
At the forest school in Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park, students learned how to integrate conservation concepts into everyday life, and how to pass the message to the next generation. We also went to the Asuke area to learn how Japanese welfare organisations revitalize forests 💪 by establishing nature-friendly economic facilities, which not only strengthen forest management but also create local job opportunities and enhance the bonding in the community! Last but not least, we also exchanged ideas with Nanzan University, working together to become citizen scientist to solve global issues👨🔬👩🔬.
Afterwards, we all went to Osaka to attend the World Expo. What will future society look like? All kinds of possibilities are showcased at the Expo 🤓. We believe students will be inspired and continue to explore the world!

🎉 Huge congratulations to 5 BAScT Year 1 students for winning the Merit Award at the 11th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, standing out from over 2,000 participants! 🏆
Their project, Eye Mirror, is an innovative smart vision-testing mirror designed for home use. By integrating vision screening functions into a mirror for everyday use and applying the Equivalent Viewing Angle Principle alongside smart home technology, users can conveniently monitor their eyesight as part of their daily routine.💡✨
The team members come from diverse academic backgrounds and possess a wide range of interests, showcasing the limitless possibilities of transdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. 🌟
Let's look forward to more transdisciplinary collaborations to create a better future! 💪

During 24 - 31 May 2025, Dr. Glos Ho and Dr. Patrick Yue brought 24 students to Australia, where they explored SDG #14 Life Below Water from a transdiscilinary perspective! Many thanks to Western Sydney University for explaining the ecology of platypuses, how AI can improve the environment, and a lab session to explore microplastics and water bugs under microscopes. Australian National Maritime Museum provided a water testing workshop for students to learn about plankton. OceanWatch gave an on-site introduction at the Sydney fish market on Australia’s work in sustainable seafood. And of course Macquarie University took us to observe eco-friendly seawall blocks ! We also visited local galleries to appreciate environmental ecology from an artistic perspective! Of course, a trip to Australia wouldn’t be complete without going out to sea to watch giant whales 🐳. In fact, every graceful spin of a whale helps redistribute nutrients in the ocean, maintaining the health and balance of the ecosystem.
