Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) / Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Innovation in Health and Social Well-Being (JS2940)

Technological innovation transforms the global landscape of health and wellness, driving societal changes and creating opportunities for our future . This new programme serves to meet the Government’s top priority for Innovation & Technology Development. The programme will play a pivotal role in promoting social and technological innovations to advance health and social well-being.

The programme is open to students from all academic backgrounds. Students who are enthusiastic in Innovative Social and Technology Solutions to promote future healthiness are encouraged to apply.

The programme consists of two concentrations – (i) Health and Social Wellness and (ii) Health Technology and Informatics.

Curriculum Framework

Teaching will be informed by cutting-edge research, particularly in the Interdisciplinary Research areas, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, and System Health. Multiple pedagogies will be adopted, such as research-led learning, problem-based, and solution-driven learning, service-learning, and guided study led by academic advisors.

Students in the Health and Social Wellness Concentration may choose courses in social identity & health cultures, health planning and communication, smart cities for healthy living, and innovative solutions for social enhancement. Those students in the Health Technology and Informatics Concentration may take courses in the health management system, biotechnology, smart living technology, and healthcare intelligence.

Health Technology and Informatics Concentration – health informatics specialist, data-based medical diagnostician , social science data analyst, social impact research analyst, health data analyst, food safety technologist , machine learning developer and integrated energy systems strategist.

Health and Social Wellness Concentration – corporate health and wellness team, the publishing industry, health and wellness coach/consultant, and specialist in the fields of health and nutrition, sports, family health , art, and mindfulness.

Graduates of the Programme would be familiar with technology and innovative solutions for health issues. They may work in the Health Department of the SAR government and specialise in policy design and applications of new technologies. For example, concerning the current pandemic, they should know what kind of tracking Apps will be needed from the health risk point of view. They should also have the knowledge on the privacy concern of the general public and thus the acceptance of the types of tracking Apps.

The programme will follow the general admission requirements. The intake quota is 35 for 2024/25 Intake.
